About Us

New potI have for almost 37 years had a passion for this craft and here at Cedar Pottery I offer you tuition to learn, in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere the skills needed to enjoy the many facets of ceramics/pottery, either as a beginner, intermediate or advanced student. I will show you how to prepare the clay, to handbuild with slabs or coils, to throw pots on the wheel, right through to finishing off your pots by turning, making handles and glazing.

I will fire your pots for you in the kiln, explaining the different drying and firing stages. Sculpting can also be explored by those wishing to do so.

Some of my students use the pottery studio like their own, producing lovely projects but with help from me only as and when they need it. This enables students who are completely new to this wonderful craft plenty of time for one-on-one tuition, as well as encouragement from the students a little ahead of you who will help to inspire you. The courses are designed to let you develop your own style at your own pace.

Support

mugWhether or not you like hand building, throwing pots on the wheel or sculpture work, I will support you and help you to create pieces that you will be proud of.

There is also scope for those who are interested in painting and artwork but who do not wish to make, to paint on already made wares, thereby producing high quality work on ‘blanks’ which can be anything from a mug to a large bowl.

I have taught in various colleges for over 20 years and look forward to helping you to enjoy learning the various skills and techniques of this amazing craft.
